What a GO, MAYBE, or SKIP read actually is — and is not.

The question a read answers

A read answers one planning question: does the weather window for this water look worth your time? It is an interpretation of the forecast — the same judgment an experienced angler makes while scanning wind, sky, and pressure before committing a morning — made explicit and repeatable. It is not a prediction that fish will bite.

What a read weighs

Each read is built from the forecast for that specific water, read together rather than as isolated numbers:

  • Wind and gusts — strength and direction, and whether they make the window workable or unfishable.
  • Barometric pressure and its trend — where pressure sits and which way it has been moving, because a move often matters more than a number.
  • Temperature — air temperature and how it fits the recent stretch.
  • Rain and storm risk — precipitation amounts and, above all, thunderstorm risk, which caps how good any window can be called.
  • Recent context — what the water has just been through over the trailing days: pressure swings, rain totals, temperature deltas.
  • Timing — the read names the day’s most promising window instead of averaging the whole day into one number.

Confidence and freshness

Every read carries a confidence level, and it is honest about its inputs: when a read is built from weather data alone, its confidence is reduced and it says so. Reads are recomputed on a regular cadence from fresh forecast data, and each page shows when its read was last updated — a read is a snapshot of the forecast, not a live feed. What a read deliberately does not claim

A GO is a statement about the weather window, not about the fish. A read does not know your target species, your technique, or the local knowledge that makes one bank better than another — and it never overrides safety: official warnings outrank every read.
