A conservative trip decision accounts for changing releases
Choose GO only when no official warning, closure, access restriction, or dam-area exclusion conflicts with the plan; release and gauge information are stable or clearly understood; and everyone has a comfortable margin for launching, returning, and leaving the water. Favor access that remains usable if the river rises and avoid plans dependent on exposed bars, narrow wading routes, low roads, or uncertain crossings. Keep a conservative turnaround time, monitor conditions during the trip, and be ready to leave before changing current or water level removes your margin.
Choose MAYBE when the rain has ended but reservoir inflow, pool elevation, dam discharge, or downstream stage is still rising, recently changed, unavailable, or hard to interpret. Waiting for another observation cycle, choosing water away from the release-affected river, or postponing can turn uncertainty into a clearer decision.
